Even beautiful Debra Messing feels that she's on the periphery because she looks ethnic??!! Ok, some of us may sneer bitterly, and yet it feels true to her. If, subjectively, many of us feel like outsiders, objectively, some differences are more visible to the majority eye, and differences tend to separate us from each other.
Consider the many and varied actions that follow. Some of us reject the majority group. Some of us push our way in, compensating for or hiding our difference. Some of us find our own niche. Some of us wage war against those who rejected us. What if we cross boundaries instead? Can we go beyond just getting along, and actually locate our insides within others as well as ourselves?
